Give us a P-R-S-A!
P = Person
I’m Annemarie Henton, Vice President of Business Development & Marketing for Albuquerque Economic Development Inc., a private association with a mission to recruit new employers and help local companies expand to generate jobs and opportunities for the Albuquerque metro area. I’m also the co-founder of Albuquerque’s award-winning “Stop Bagging, Start Bragging” campaign, which encourages Albuquerque residents to play a role in the city’s talent attraction and retention strategy. I love helping people see what’s possible and getting them to believe they can achieve big dreams. I care about being a champion for women and making them feel excited about what’s next in their lives. I love getting lost in a good book, hanging with my Goldendoodle puppy, Hank, and going to music festivals with my husband. On the weekends you’ll likely catch me in the mountains: I love to snowboard, mountain bike, hike, paddle board, fly fish and camp.
R = Reason
I joined PRSA because I believe in the power of good relationships and that continuous learning and professional development are imperative at every level of our careers. It’s important to be surrounded by experts and people facing the same challenges and trends in the workplace.
While technology and business continue to change and evolve, one thing remains the same: People need to be heard, understood and validated. Good communication is at the center of building a good company culture, increasing sales and revenue, advocating for important policy, navigating a crisis and more. Earning my APR was a game changer for me and helped catapult me into more career opportunities and earning potential. The APR skill set is valuable to every company, at every size, in every industry.
S = Specialties
An energetic and intuitive business executive, I specialize in leadership, corporate strategy, business development, building effective teams, marketing, strategic communications and relationship management. I speak nationally on the topic of emotional intelligence in the multi-generational workplace, and I consult with C-suite executives about talent attraction and retention strategies. I turn people’s anxiety into confidence, raising the energy in the room and helping my coworkers and loved ones see possibilities instead of obstacles. I’m a connector–a skill that has always come naturally to me.
A = Advice
Bold optimism can truly change your life and your career. The science behind positive thinking
Positivity attracts positivity. When people experience positive emotions, they’re more likely to see all the possibilities that exist in their lives, and they’re more likely to be innovative, open-minded and collaborative. When people view you that way – as someone who brings innovation, energy and teamwork to the table–you become the kind of person people want to follow and support. And you also bring out the best in people along the way.
So, the advice I always give people is to be boldly optimistic in the way you approach your life and work. Train your brain to think about the many reasons something will work, instead of all the reasons something won’t work. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Be willing to see the different pathways that can get you to the same good outcome. Be flexible so that you open yourself up to great opportunities.
